Hi I'm Tom, moved here not that long ago and was hoping to maybe get in on an RPG group. I tend to like more story focused games like apoc world or blades in the dark. But I'm happy to play anything.

I may have mis-judged the time to cook dinner and so will be late. Sorry.

Hi all,

I moved to the area recently and have just got to the point where life has settled down enough that I have the time to look around for a gaming group. I spotted this group online and wanted to say hi and see if there are any RP groups I could slot into? Would particularly be interested in a D&D or ShadowRun game although I play most things.

I'm also keen to get back into wargaming after a long hiatus (last time I played Necromunda/40k was nearly 11 years ago now) so would be interested in what kind of a scene you have.

A Storm Over Dietershafen

In the grim darkness of medieval europe you will roll peasants and die of cholera.”

The time of Sigmar has long faded into legend, and many feel the Empire that he strove for is heading the same way. It is as if an unseen force stalks the land, creeping through the cracks in the human spirit, turning corruptible souls towards some insidious plot. The ongoing famine has emboldened those who would stir unrest in the provinces, and old wounds open all too easily. As the cults of Sigmar and Ulric posture for dominance, the Elector Counts’ armies gather near old borders and the young Emperor Franz struggles to regain control.

You have recently made your way to Dietershafen, second city of the cold, rain-soaked Barony of Nordland. Far from southern concerns over power, politics and war, this remote area has even escaped the recent crop diseases and resultant famines. The small port town is currently prospering, a rare thing in such times. This is largely due to the oversized docks housing the Imperial Navy’s Northern Fleet. Merchants flock here to supply the fleet, and shipbuilding creates jobs and a huge demand for timber. There is even an expedition to the New World readying itself for departure.

As winter takes hold, an unusually large storm sweeps in from the Sea of Claws. Merchant ships seeking shelter are crammed in behind the harbour wall. Wagons back up trying to enter the town, inns fill up and windows are boarded over. You, however, find yourself waiting in the Magistrate’s Office, for you have something urgent to report...

Actually useful new information to follow once I've gotten round to writing it. Again feel free to ask questions here if you have them.

Hello new players, I have compiled some vague but hopefully useful notes on creating your characters.

Warhammer Fantasy Role Play typically uses random generation for almost everything about your character. You can role on tables for everything from your name and career, to star sign and missing teeth. Just like life in the Old World however, the random number gods are far from fair. Your character is as likely to start out as a broken down, borderline insane rat catcher (with the obligatory small, but vicious, dog) as a powerful, borderline insane sorcerer. However, some people spurn the gods of randomness, and prefer to have more creative control of their characters. This will be an option. But if you're still crazy enough to want to randomly generate a character then that’s fine as well.

For those eschewing randomness here are a few questions to ponder over:

Why have you journeyed to Dietershafen?
When did you arrive?
How did you get here?
Who have you travelled with?
Where are you from?
What is your family like?
Who are your friends? and enemies?
What is your social class?
How religious are you, what god(s) do you favour?
What are your prized possessions?
Who are you loyal to?
What is your character's Race (Human, Dwarf, Elf or Halfling)?
What is your Starting Career? (this is similar to a Class in other games, but there are hundreds of options)

If you’re looking for inspiration then this website has a random character generator, and this one has a list of all careers. If you want to know more about the different careers than just a name then I have a copy of the Career Compendium you could have a read through. (I couldn’t possibly recommend that you google “wfrp 2nd career compendium khorne.ru” though. That would be wrong.)

You will likely also discover that starting characters are rather ineffectual, growing to barely competent over time. Since the club rounds are on a shorter timescale than really allows for much advancement, you will start off will a small amount of bonus experience. Said bonus will differ depending on your starting career, to balance things out a little between the poor Dung Collectors and the rich Nobles. If you have any particular ideas for a backstory then these can also probably be worked into your starting character.

So either:

1) If you have ideas for a particular character and backstory in mind then send me a PM.
2) Generate a character randomly/semi-randomly ahead of time to give yourself time to think on a backstory.
3) Roll randomly during the first session.

(Note: All character’s stats will be randomly generated during the first session)

A good balance of characters is always a plus, but since there’s five players it shouldn’t matter if there’s overlap. There are enough careers that cover similar areas for everyone to start with a different one. E.g. If three players wanted to start as warriors, then there are options for Soldier, Mercenary and Marine (or Bodyguard, Militia, Pit Fighter, Riverwarden, Roadwarden, Shieldbreaker, Troll Slayer and Watchman. Plus about 20-30 others. You get the idea.)

Feel free to discuss ideas and ask questions in this thread.

I'm Matthew, a newbie who spends too much time reading Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith poetry more than is healthy.
I go on Tuesdays to Dungeon World to take orders from a hawk and pretend to know what I'm doing. Please don't tell him I said that.
He sees all. Hope to see everyone tomorrow.

Hello, I'm Ole. Like Fleafa I'm a regular from Solent Wargamers that are hoping to pop along for some more gaming on Sundays. Especially since Ross managed to sell me on Guildball at our recent anniversary gaming day, so I'll be looking for some more games of that. Aside from Guildball I play lots of other things. Warmachine, Bushido, Eden, Blood Bowl, Epic, Drop Fleet, 40k, etc. And lots of boardgames of course.

Anyway, thought I'd say hi. I should be there tonight actually, hoping to lose another game of Guildball.  Cool

Hi. My name's Ben. I've been a member of Solent Wargamers Club in Fratton for the full 10 years. I moved to Fareham a year ago and still haven't made time to come to Dark Worlds! I'm going to try to change that with the odd Sunday.
I play a bunch of miniatures games, my main one being Bushido. I'm a retainer so, if anyone wants a demo, let me know. Other games I play with varying frequency are Blood Bowl, The Walking Dead, Eden, Arena Rex... many others have come and gone, though I still have the miniatures. After a long hiatus, I've started a little 40k force with the new starter set. I'll also be looking to collect the Blacksmith's Guild for Guild Ball.

Hi guys,

My name is Ross, I've only ever played Guild Ball in the past, but I'm interested in trying some Roleplaying games in the future. I'm told this is the place to do that Smile
